Temporomandibular Disorder (TMJ/TMD)

Carol with model

Many people experience pain in their jaw joints, made worse by clenching and grinding. Sometimes the muscles around the joint are affected as well. In severe cases, people may suffer from headaches, neck, and back pain.

Dr. McGonigle has studied the affect of the bite on Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) and can help relieve the painful symptoms. We collaborate with other health care professionals to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to this complex problem.

Treatment methods include:

Night Guard: teeth protection for people who clench and grind
Bite Splint: a diagnostic and therapeutic approach for those whose clenching and grinding have resulted in painful joints and muscles
Supportive Care: physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, cranial-sacral work, chiropractic care, etc.
